| | | | ::UPLIFT FAQ Q: Where do I stay? A: Campers are housed in campus dormitories. Each dorm is air-conditioned and has two twin-sized beds. Room assignments are made at registration, not ahead of time by the camp, so you have the opportunity to stay with your friends. Q: What if I am coming as an individual camper? A: Registration will be in the Benson lobby at 2 p.m. on the Saturday of your session. You may request a roommate if you know another individual camper who is coming. As an individual camper, you will be assigned a counselor who will work with all the individuals and form your own unique youth group. It’s a great way to meet new friends! Q: What sports are offered? A: Indoor swimming (not co-ed) is available to campers during recreation time. Harding has softball fields, soccer fields, basketball, volleyball and tennis courts. Just bring your equipment and we’ll provide the place. Q: What’s expected of the campers? A: Campers are expected to attend all activities. Participating in the planned activities is a big part of making Uplift a great experience. Campers are also expected to obey the rules and help create a positive atmosphere conducive to spiritual growth. Q: What things should I bring with me to Uplift? A: Be sure to bring casual and recreational clothes, towel and wash cloths, a sleeping bag or bed sheets for a twin bed, pillow, toiletries, alarm clock, swimsuit, sports equipment, Bible, writing paper and pen for notes. You’ll get an Uplift T-shirt (you’ve already paid for it). If you want, you may bring snack food; however, vending machines are available and pizza can be ordered from your dorm room. Q: Do you have a camp nurse? A: Yes, we have a camp nurse as well as a local doctor who will be on call for Uplift emergencies. The nurse is used by campers who are sick or injured; they cannot be relied upon to dispense daily medications. Q: Can parents write and call their kids at camp? A: Parents are welcome to send mail to the following camp address: Box 10750, Searcy, AR, 72149-0001. However, pulling campers out of their classes during Uplift for a phone call is extremely difficult. Please reserve phone calls to Uplift for emergencies. Campus Security is (501) 279-5000 and the Uplift Office is (501) 279-4660. | | | | | | | | | |
::COST PER CAMPER The cost is $190 (first come-first serve), which includes an $90-per-student deposit that is refundable until May 1, 2008. Registration is not complete until the deposit and medical release form are received.
::DEFINITIONS Individual Campers Constitutes anyone who is attending between those entering the 7th grade through those entering their freshman year of college without a group leader/sponsor. Group Two or more students constitute a “group” who are attending with an adult sponsor/leader. In-Dorm Sponsors - The cost for an in-dorm sponsor is $100. They are expected to help control activities in the dorms and to abide by the same curfew and regulations as the students. If you like to stay out past curfew with other sponsors and prefer not to be around students 24/7, you DO NOT need to stay in the dorm. Sponsor Housing - The cost for sponsor housing is the same as a camper--$190. You will have a room that you share with a roommate (we do keep all married couples together), and you will in most cases have suite mates. We ask sponsors in sponsor housing to help track their students from their congregation during the day and to also help run our recreation time in the afternoon. If you love young people but prefer not to be with them 24/7, then this is the place and position for you. ::RULES 1. Uplift is a Christian camp and we ask that you be respectful of other campers, counselors, Harding students, employees, and property. 2. Uplift I.D. cards need to be worn at all times. Your I.D. card is your pass to events and meals. 3. Computers, televisions, radios, walkmans, beepers, phones, video games, and jewelry are not permitted at Uplift. These items can be easily lost or stolen. 4. Possession of tobacco, alcohol, illegal drugs, drug paraphernalia, or weapons of any kind are strictly prohibited and will result in immediate expulsion from the camp at parents' expense. 5. Remain on campus. Being caught off campus without permission will result in immediate expulsion from the camp at parents' expense. ::DRESS CODE Youth ministers and sponsors are responsible to see that their youth group (including sponsors and other adults in your group) complies with the dress code for Uplift. We suggest that you have a meeting with all those participating BEFORE they pack for Uplift and make sure they completely understand our dress code. The dress code will be strictly enforced by Uplift staff. If there are any problems while at Uplift, it will be your responsibility to see that all in your group meet dress code. (You may need to take your campers to Wal-Mart, Goodwill, etc. to find suitable clothing.) Modesty is important and, because of this, we have a few rules concerning our dress code: 1. Don’t bring clothing without sleeves (guys and girls). You will not be allowed to wear it under any circumstances, including recreation time. Inappropriate clothing for Uplift includes any sleeveless apparel, (for example, sundresses, tank tops, sleeveless blouses, athletic shirts, and cut-off T-shirts) and clothing that exposes any part of the mid-section when standing, sitting, or bending over. All tops should be long enough to be tucked in. 2. Shorts may be worn, but they must be modest length. At Uplift, we define “modest” as those shorts which are below the fingertips when standing straight, arms to the side. This length applies to athletic shorts as well. 3. Skin tight clothing (tops, spandex, tight jeans, etc.) halter tops, or otherwise revealing clothing are inappropriate for Uplift and are to be left at home. Young ladies are asked not to bring any low-cut shirts/tops. ::WHAT TO BRING Bring: 1. Bible, notebook, pen 2. Bedding (sleeping bag, pillow, sheets, blanket, etc.) 3. Towel and bathing suit 4. Personal hygiene articles (soap, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss, deodorant/anti-perspirant, etc.) 5. Clothing appropriate to dress code Do Not Bring: 1. Computers, televisions, radios, walkmans, beepers, video games, and jewelry. These items can be easily lost or stolen. 2. Roller blades, skateboards, water guns, water balloons, etc. These items can cause injury to you and others. 3. Tobacco, alcohol, illegal drugs, drug paraphernalia, and weapons of any kind. Any of these will result in your expulsion from camp. | | |
